Breville Barista Express Review
An all-in-one machine: grind, dose, tamp and steam on one countertop footprint. It is the classic first 'serious' espresso machine for a reason.

Overview
The Barista Express combines a burr grinder and a semi-automatic espresso machine in one unit. You grind straight into the portafilter, tamp, and pull the shot, so the whole workflow happens in one spot on the counter.
The pressure gauge on the front is its most useful learning tool. If the needle sits too low, the grind is too coarse; too high, and it is too fine. That feedback loop is what helps beginners improve quickly.
Who should skip it
You only drink milk drinks and want them hands-free, or you already own a good grinder and would rather put the money into the machine itself.
What else you will need
- Fresh whole-bean coffee (roasted within the last few weeks)
- A small kitchen scale to weigh your dose and shot
- Descaling solution or filtered water to limit scale
