How it tastes
Perfect Daily Grind describes Colombian coffee as balanced and known for its sweetness and aroma. As an example, a washed lot from small producers in Santa Bárbara was described by its importer as red grape and plum with milk chocolate, crisp acidity and a jammy body.
Where it comes from
Coffee grows at 1,200 to 2,200 metres. Most regions have two harvests a year: the main crop and a smaller one called mitaca. Nariño has only one.
The National Federation of Coffee Growers (FNC), founded in 1927, represents more than 500,000 producers, most of them small family farms. Its Juan Valdez character has appeared in adverts since 1958, and the logo was created in 1981 to mark 100% Colombian coffee. In 2011 UNESCO listed the Coffee Cultural Landscape of Caldas, Quindío and Risaralda as a World Heritage Site.
How to enjoy it
Colombia works everywhere: as a sweet espresso, in a latte or cappuccino, and as filter coffee. If you share one bag with people who like different drinks, this is a sensible pick.
